Rood

The rood is a traditional English unit of land area, equal to one quarter of an acre or approximately 1,011.7 square metres. It was historically defined as a strip of land one furlong (40 rods) long and one rod (16.5 feet) wide. The rood was widely used in medieval England for measuring agricultural land and appears in historical deeds and surveys. Although it has been largely superseded by the acre and metric units, the rood is still occasionally referenced in historical and legal contexts in the United Kingdom.
