What it does

This calculator works out a Canadian paycheque the way payroll software does, with the Canada Revenue Agency's payroll deductions formulas: federal and provincial income tax after the basic personal amounts, Canada Pension Plan contributions (including the second additional CPP2 above $74,600), and Employment Insurance premiums. In Quebec it uses the Quebec Pension Plan, the reduced EI rate and the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan. Ontario's surtax and health premium and the Ontario and BC tax reductions are included.

How to use it

  1. Choose your province or territory and how often you are paid.
  2. Type your gross pay per year, per paycheque or per hour.
  3. Add RRSP or pension contributions and union dues taken from your pay, if any.

The arithmetic runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored, so you can use these with real numbers.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is it?
Outside Quebec it follows the CRA's official payroll formulas (T4127) and was checked against the CRA's own payroll deductions tables, line by line, within a few cents. It assumes a regular salary and the basic personal amounts on your TD1 forms; extra claims, bonuses and taxable benefits change the result.

What is CPP2?
Since 2024, earnings between the yearly maximum pensionable earnings ($74,600 in 2026) and a second ceiling ($85,000) pay a second additional contribution of 4%, up to $416 a year for the employee. Below $74,600 there is no CPP2.

Why does my take-home pay go up later in the year?
CPP and EI stop once you reach the yearly maximum ($4,230.45 of CPP, $416 of CPP2 and $1,123.07 of EI in 2026), so higher earners see larger paycheques in the last months. This calculator spreads them evenly over the year.

Does RRSP lower my taxes?
Yes, contributions deducted from your pay to an RRSP or a registered pension plan reduce your taxable income, so less income tax is withheld. They do not reduce CPP or EI.
