Change Image DPI (300 DPI)

Change the DPI of a JPG or PNG to 300, 72 or any other value without changing a single pixel, and see the print size in cm and inches. Free, in your browser.

The image is read by your browser and never sent anywhere. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored.

What it does

DPI (dots per inch) is a number stored in the image file that tells programs how big to print it; it does not change the pixels. A 3000 × 2000 photo prints at 25.4 × 16.9 cm at 300 DPI or 105.8 × 70.6 cm at 72 DPI. Print shops and forms often ask for 300 DPI. This tool rewrites only that number, in the JFIF and EXIF of a JPEG or the pHYs of a PNG, so the image is not recompressed and keeps its quality.

How to use it

  1. Choose a JPG or PNG image; its current DPI and print size appear.
  2. Choose the new DPI (300 for print, 72 or 96 for screens) and check the new print size.
  3. Click Save with the new DPI and download the image.

Frequently asked questions

Does changing the DPI improve the quality?
No. The number of pixels stays the same; only the print size changes. To print sharp at 300 DPI, a 10 × 15 cm photo needs about 1181 × 1772 pixels.

Why does a form reject my photo for not being 300 DPI?
Many upload forms only read the DPI value stored in the file. Writing 300 here satisfies that check without changing how the photo looks.

Does it work with WebP or HEIC?
Those formats have no standard DPI field that programs read. Convert the image to JPG or PNG first and then set the DPI here.
