What it does
A commission is a share of the sales you make, usually a percentage. With a flat rate it is simply sales times the rate. With tiered rates the percentage changes with the volume: either each rate applies only to the part of the sales inside its tier, like income tax brackets, or the rate of the tier you reach applies to all of your sales.
How to use it
- Enter your sales and the commission rate, and your base salary if you have one.
- For tiered commission, tick “Tiered rates”, fill in the limits and rates, and choose how the tiers apply.
- Enter an income goal to see how much you need to sell to reach it.
The arithmetic runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored, so you can use these with real numbers.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a commission percentage?
Divide the commission by the sales and multiply by 100. A commission of 2,500 on 50,000 of sales is a 5% rate. With tiered rates, the effective rate shown here is that same division.
Is commission calculated on the sale price or on the profit?
It depends on the contract. Most sales jobs pay on the sale value, but some pay on the gross profit of each sale. Enter whichever amount your contract uses in the Sales field.
