What it does
Laminate, vinyl plank and engineered wood are sold by the box, and each box states the area it covers. The calculator adds the waste allowance to the room area, divides by the coverage per box and rounds up, because shops sell whole boxes.
How to use it
- Enter the length and width of the room.
- Enter the coverage per box from the packaging and the waste allowance.
- Add the price per unit of area to see the total cost.
The arithmetic runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored, so you can use these with real numbers.
Frequently asked questions
How much waste should I allow for flooring?
Around 7–10% for a rectangular room with planks laid straight, and 15% for diagonal layouts or rooms with many angles.
Should I include the area under furniture?
Yes, for floating floors laid across the whole room. Leave out only fixed built-in units, such as kitchen cabinets, if the floor will not go under them.
