Nox

The nox (nox) is a unit of illuminance equal to 0.001 lux (10⁻³ lx). It was used to measure very low levels of illuminance, such as those found in moonlit or starlit conditions. It is now rarely used, having been superseded by the lux in scientific practice.

Lux

The lux (lx) is the SI unit of illuminance, measuring luminous flux per unit area. One lux equals one lumen per square metre. It is used to measure the intensity of light as perceived by the human eye falling on a surface. Typical office lighting is around 300–500 lux, while direct sunlight exceeds 100,000 lux.
