Age is the age reached on this year's birthday (subtract 1 if it has not come yet). The zodiac follows the calendar year, as in Japan; in the Chinese calendar it changes at Lunar New Year.

What it does

The Indian national calendar is a solar calendar with fixed month lengths. Unlike the other eras, it also changes the month and the day, because its year begins in March: use the date converter in both directions.

How to use it

  1. Pick a Gregorian date to see it in the era; the result updates as you type.
  2. Use the year converter in either direction: type the era year or the Gregorian year.
  3. Use the year chart to look up birth years, ages and zodiac signs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Indian national calendar?
It is the Saka calendar adopted by India in 1957 and printed next to the Gregorian date in the Gazette of India. The year begins on 1 Chaitra, 22 March (21 March in leap years), and the Saka year is AD − 78.

How long are the Saka months?
Chaitra has 30 days (31 in leap years), Vaishakha to Bhadra have 31 days and Ashvin to Phalguna 30, so the months follow the Gregorian year exactly. It is not the lunar Vikram Samvat used for festivals.
