Keyboard Test
Test every key of your keyboard online: press the keys and watch them light up, check rollover and ghosting, and see the code of each key, on any layout.
What it does
This test shows a full keyboard on the screen and lights up each key as you press it, so you can quickly find keys that do not respond, stick or repeat. It works with any layout, because it reads the physical position of each key, and it shows the character, the code and the position of the last key. It also counts how many keys you can hold down at once, to check rollover and ghosting. Keys that are not on a standard keyboard, such as the extra key of ISO or ABNT2 keyboards or media keys, appear in a separate list.
How to use it
- Choose the size of your keyboard.
- Press every key: each one turns green after it has been detected.
- Hold several keys together to see how many the keyboard registers at once.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't a key light up?
If a key never lights up, it may be faulty or dirty, or its switch may be worn. Check that the page has focus by clicking on it. Fn and some system shortcuts cannot be detected by any website, so they never light up even on a working keyboard.
What are rollover and ghosting?
Rollover is how many keys the keyboard registers when they are held down together. Many office keyboards only handle two or three at once in some combinations, and extra keys are lost or wrong keys appear, which is called ghosting. Gaming keyboards often support six keys or more.
Why are the labels different from my keyboard?
The drawing starts with the American layout and updates each key with the character it really types as soon as you press it. In Chrome and Edge the labels follow your layout from the start. Keyboards with a different shape, such as ISO or ABNT2, have extra keys that appear in a separate list.
