Russian Archin
The Russian archin (also spelled arshin) is a traditional Russian unit of length equal to 28 inches (71.12 cm), standardised in the 19th century. It was widely used in pre-revolutionary Russia for measuring cloth, land, and construction materials. The archin was divided into 16 vershoks and formed part of the old Russian imperial measurement system before Russia adopted the metric system.

In 1799, the metre was redefined in terms of a prototype metre bar (the actual bar used was changed in 1889). In 1960, the metre was redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. In 1983, the current definition was adopted.
