What it does
Merging PDFs copies the pages of each document, in order, into a new one. It is not a conversion and nothing is re-rendered: the text stays text, it stays selectable and searchable, and the fonts and images travel with the pages. What does not travel is anything that belonged to a document as a whole rather than to a page — bookmarks, form fields and digital signatures are tied to the file they were made in, and a signature that survived merging would be worthless anyway, since the document it signed no longer exists.

Frequently asked questions
Does merging reduce quality?
No. The pages are copied as they are, not re-rendered or re-compressed. Text stays selectable, images keep their original resolution, and a page that was sharp before is exactly as sharp afterwards. The merged file is roughly the sum of the originals.
Can I change the order after choosing the files?
Yes. The list shows the files in the order they will be merged, and the arrows move one up or down. Browsers do not guarantee the order in which they hand over a multiple selection, so it is worth a glance at the list before merging.
What happens to bookmarks and form fields?
They are lost, and that is a real limitation rather than an oversight. Those belong to the document as a whole, not to any page, so there is no correct way to combine two sets of them. If a PDF's form matters, keep the original alongside the merged copy.
Can I merge a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. A protected file has to be unlocked before its pages can be copied, and doing that here would mean asking for the password — which is exactly the kind of thing a page that promises not to upload anything should not be asking for. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. The files are read by your browser and merged in the page itself. There is no upload and nothing is stored, and once the page has loaded it keeps working with the network switched off.
