Net Worth Calculator
Free net worth calculator: add up what you own and what you owe, from cash and investments to mortgage and credit cards, and see your net worth and debt ratio.
What it does
Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. Assets include cash, investments, retirement accounts and the market value of your home and vehicles; liabilities include the mortgage, car and student loans, credit card balances and other debts. This calculator adds both sides and shows your net worth and the debt-to-asset ratio, a simple way to follow your financial progress over the years.
How to use it
- Type the value of what you own: cash, investments, retirement, home and vehicles.
- Type what you still owe on each debt.
- See your net worth and repeat it once or twice a year to follow the trend.
The arithmetic runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored, so you can use these with real numbers.
Frequently asked questions
What value should I use for my home and car?
Their market value today: what you could sell them for, not what you paid. Cars lose value every year, so update the figure each time you calculate.
Is a negative net worth bad?
It is common when you are young or have just finished studying with loans. What matters is the direction: paying down debt and saving regularly turn it positive over time.
Should retirement accounts count?
Yes, they are yours, but remember that money in pre-tax accounts will be taxed when you withdraw it, so it is worth somewhat less than the balance shows.
What is a good debt-to-asset ratio?
The lower the better. Below 50% means you own more than twice what you owe; above 100% means you owe more than you own. A mortgage usually keeps the ratio high for the first years.
