What it does

This calculator works with the three numbers every runner uses: distance, time and pace. Enter any two and it finds the third, in kilometres or miles, together with your speed in km/h and mph, the time at each kilometre or mile, and predicted times for the 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon based on the race you entered. Use it to plan a training run, set a goal for a race or check the pace you need for a target time.

Frequently asked questions

What is running pace?
Pace is the time it takes to run one kilometre or one mile, such as 5:30 per km. It is the inverse of speed: the faster you run, the lower the pace.

How accurate are the race predictions?
They use Peter Riegel's 1981 formula, which works well between about 1.5 km and the marathon for runners trained for the longer distance. Predictions for a marathon from a short race tend to be optimistic.

How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?
One mile is exactly 1.609344 km, so the pace per mile is the pace per kilometre multiplied by 1.609: 5:00 per km is 8:03 per mile.
