PDF to Word
Free PDF to Word converter: turn a PDF into an editable .docx with its paragraphs, headings, lists, tables, columns and images, in your browser. No upload.
What it does
This PDF to Word converter turns a PDF into an editable Word document (.docx), directly in your browser. A PDF has no paragraphs, only letters placed on a page, so the converter rebuilds the structure: it joins the lines of each paragraph, keeps the alignment and indentation, recognises headings and turns them into Word heading styles, turns bullets and numbering into real Word lists, rebuilds tables from their borders (including merged cells and shading), keeps two-column layouts as columns, and keeps bold, italic, colours, links, superscripts and images. Repeated headers and footers become the header and footer of the Word document, with the page number as a field. The file never leaves your computer.
How to use it
- Choose the PDF, or drag it onto the box.
- Press Convert to Word. Each page is read in turn; long documents take a few seconds.
- Download the .docx file and open it in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages to edit it.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, on your own device. The PDF and the Word document never leave your computer, which also means it works for confidential documents.
Will the Word document look exactly like the PDF?
Very close, but not always identical. The text is rebuilt as real, editable paragraphs, so Word wraps the lines again with its own rules and a line can break in a slightly different place, especially if a font used in the PDF is not installed on your computer. What matters for editing is kept: paragraphs, headings, lists, tables, columns, images and formatting.
What about scanned PDFs?
A scanned PDF is made of photos of pages and has no text inside. Its pages go into the Word document as pictures. To get editable text from them, first use the image to text (OCR) tool, which reads the letters in the images.
Why is some text wrong or in the wrong order?
The converter can only use the text stored inside the PDF. Some PDFs store it badly, for example certain programs save Arabic or Hindi with letters out of order, and some designs place text in unusual positions. If you copy the text from the PDF in a viewer and it comes out wrong, it will also be wrong in Word.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
A PDF that asks for a password to open has to be unlocked first; the page shows a link to the unlock tool. PDFs that only restrict printing or copying open normally.
