Boiler horsepower (hp(S)) is a unit of power used to measure the output of steam boilers, equal to the energy required to evaporate 34.5 pounds of water per hour from and at 212°F, equivalent to approximately 9,809.5 watts. It is the largest of the common horsepower variants and is used primarily in the North American boiler and steam engineering industries. One boiler horsepower equals approximately 13.15 mechanical horsepower.
