The electric horsepower (hp) is a unit of power defined as exactly 746 watts, standardised for use in rating the output of electric motors in the United States. It differs slightly from the mechanical (imperial) horsepower of approximately 745.7 watts and the metric horsepower of 735.499 watts. The electric horsepower is the legal definition used by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission for labelling motor-driven products.
