Petawatt

The petawatt (PW) is a unit of power equal to 10¹⁵ watts. It is most commonly associated with the peak power of ultrashort pulsed laser systems, which can achieve petawatt-scale instantaneous power for femtosecond durations, enabling research in laser-driven particle acceleration and nuclear fusion. The concept of a petawatt laser was first demonstrated at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1996.
