Micropascal

The micropascal (symbol: µPa) is a unit of pressure equal to 10⁻⁶ pascals, formed by applying the SI prefix micro- to the pascal. It is the standard reference level for underwater acoustics, where sound pressure levels are referenced to 1 µPa. The micropascal is also used in precision seismology and infrasound research.

Pascal

The pascal (Pa) is the SI derived unit of pressure, defined as one newton per square metre (N/m²). It was adopted by the General Conference on Weights and Measures in 1971 and named after the French mathematician and physicist Blaise Pascal. Standard atmospheric pressure is approximately 101,325 Pa, and it is widely used in science, engineering, and meteorology.
