QR Code Scanner
Free online QR code scanner: read a QR code or barcode from an image, a screenshot or your camera, and see where a link really goes. Nothing is uploaded.
What it does
This QR code scanner reads QR codes and barcodes from a picture, a screenshot or your camera, directly in the browser. It works on a computer as well as on a phone, which is useful when the code is in an email, a PDF or a web page that is already on your screen. Instead of jumping to the link, it shows what is inside the code: the full address and the site it really goes to, with a warning for common tricks; the network name and password of a Wi-Fi code; the details of a contact card, email, phone number, event or location; and the receiver, amount and checksum of a Pix code. It also reads product barcodes (EAN, UPC, ISBN), Data Matrix, PDF417 and Aztec codes.
How to use it
- Choose a photo or screenshot of the code, paste it with Ctrl+V, or press the camera button and point at the code.
- The code is found and read in a moment. If the image has several codes, each one is numbered on the picture.
- Check the content, then copy it, open the link, save the contact or event, or copy the Wi-Fi password.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to scan a QR code here?
Yes. The image and the camera video are read by your browser and never leave your device, and nothing is stored. The page also never opens what it reads: a link is only opened if you press the button, so you can look at the address first.
How do I spot a dangerous QR code?
Look at the site name shown after "Goes to", not at the beginning of the link. Be wary when it is a number instead of a name, when letters from another alphabet imitate a known site, when the link has a part before an @ sign, or when it is a short link that hides its destination. On posters, parking metres and restaurant tables, check that no sticker has been placed over the original code.
Can I scan a QR code that is on my screen?
Yes. Take a screenshot and paste it here with Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac), or save the image and choose it. On a phone, a screenshot of the code can be chosen from the gallery.
Why is the code not found?
Most often the photo is blurry, too far away, or has a reflection over the code. Fill more of the picture with the code, hold the phone steady and avoid glare. A code that is cut off at the edge, damaged beyond its error correction, or printed with too little contrast cannot be read.
Which codes can it read?
QR codes (including Micro QR and rMQR), Data Matrix, Aztec and PDF417, and barcodes such as EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, ISBN, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, ITF, Codabar and GS1 DataBar. Several codes in the same picture are all read.
