Rotate Video
Rotate a video online for free: turn it 90° or 180° or mirror it, instantly and without quality loss, or re-encode it for any player. Runs in your browser.
What it does
Phones record in the orientation the camera sensor has, and a tag in the file tells players how to turn the picture. When the tag is wrong, the video plays sideways or upside down. The instant method fixes that tag: the video is copied without re-encoding, so it takes seconds and the quality stays the same, and all modern players and websites follow it. If a program still shows the video sideways, choose re-encode, which turns the pixels themselves.
How to use it
- Choose the video that plays sideways or upside down.
- Pick the rotation and check it in the preview; mirror it if needed.
- Click Rotate video and download it.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my video still look sideways in some programs?
Some older players and editors ignore the orientation tag. Rotate the video again with the re-encode method: the picture itself is turned, so it looks right everywhere.
Is my video uploaded? Is there a size limit?
Nothing is uploaded: the file is read and converted on your device. The limit is your device's memory, since the result is built in memory before you download it. About 2 GB works on most computers; phones handle less.
Which browsers does it work in?
Copying, trimming, muting and rotating work in any modern browser. Re-encoding uses the WebCodecs video encoder of Chrome and Edge, Safari 16.4 or later and Firefox 130 or later. On a computer it is often faster than the video plays.
Which formats can I open?
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and MPEG-TS (.ts) files with H.264, HEVC, VP8, VP9 or AV1 video. HEVC needs a device with HEVC decoding, which most recent phones and computers have.
