What it does

In France the gross salary on the contract (brut) loses about 21% to 25% in employee contributions: old-age pension, the AGIRC-ARRCO supplementary pension, the CSG and CRDS, and for executives (cadres) a few extra charges. What is left is the net before tax. Since 2019 the employer also withholds income tax at source (prélèvement à la source), at the personal rate the tax office sends or at the neutral rate, and the net after tax is what reaches your bank account. This calculator follows the official 2026 rates of the URSSAF and the tax office.

How to use it

  1. Type your gross salary per month or per year and choose non-cadre or cadre.
  2. Add your mutuelle if you have one: your share and the employer's share per month.
  3. Choose the withholding rate: the neutral rate, your personal rate or an estimate from the tax scale with your family situation.

The arithmetic runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored, so you can use these with real numbers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between net before tax and net after tax?
Net before tax (net avant impôt) is the gross minus social contributions. Since 2019 the employer withholds income tax at source every month, so the amount paid into your account (net à payer) is the net before tax minus that withholding.

What is the neutral rate?
The rate used when the employer does not have your personal rate, or when you choose not to share it. It depends only on the monthly taxable net: from 1 May 2026 it is 0% up to €1,635 a month and rises in steps up to 43%. The difference with your real tax is settled the following year.

Why do cadres get a lower net?
By law, cadres pay a small extra contribution (APEC) and the employer must pay a prévoyance contribution of 1.5% of salary up to the ceiling, which is taxable and subject to CSG. Collective agreements usually add more prévoyance, which is why the rule of thumb is about 25% of deductions for cadres and 22% for non-cadres.

What is the minimum wage (SMIC) in 2026?
For 35 hours a week, €1,823.03 gross a month from 1 January 2026 and €1,867.02 from 1 June 2026, which is about €1,478 net before tax. At this level the neutral withholding rate is 0%.
