What it does
Splitting a PDF copies the pages you pick into a new document and leaves the rest behind. Nothing is re-rendered, so text stays text and images keep their resolution. The one thing worth knowing is that a page is not always as self-contained as it looks: a chart may sit on one page while its footnote sits on the next, and a PDF has no idea they belong together. The tool gives you exactly the pages you ask for, which means the deciding is yours.

Frequently asked questions
How do I write the page numbers?
As 1-3, 5, 8-10 — ranges with a hyphen, single pages separated by commas. Spaces make no difference, a reversed range like 5-3 is read as 3-5, and repeated pages are only kept once. Whatever you type, the page tells you underneath which pages it understood, so you can check before downloading.
Does splitting reduce quality?
No. The pages are copied as they are, not re-rendered or re-compressed. What does change is the file size, and not always by as much as you would expect: fonts and images shared across the document may have to be carried along for the few pages you kept.
Why did one file per page open so many downloads?
Because each page becomes its own PDF, and each one is a separate download. Some browsers ask for permission the first time several arrive in a row. If that is not what you wanted, keep only some pages instead and you get a single file.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. A protected file has to be unlocked before its pages can be copied, and doing that here would mean asking for the password — which is exactly the kind of thing a page that promises not to upload anything should not be asking for. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by your browser and split in the page itself. There is no upload and nothing is stored, and once the page has loaded it keeps working with the network switched off.
