What it does
This test opens your webcam in the browser and shows what other people would see in a video call. It measures the resolution the camera really delivers, the aspect ratio and the frame rate, lists the cameras connected to the device and lets you try the highest resolution and save a photo. If the camera does not open, it explains why and how to allow access in your browser.
How to use it
- Press test my camera and allow access when the browser asks.
- Check the image, the resolution and the frame rate; choose another camera if you have more than one.
- Try the maximum resolution or take a photo, then press stop to turn the camera off.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my camera not working?
The most common causes are a blocked permission in the browser, another app using the camera (such as a video call) or the camera being turned off in the system privacy settings. Some laptops also have a physical switch, a shutter or a function key that disables the camera.
Why is the resolution lower than the camera's?
Browsers start the camera at a moderate resolution. Press try maximum resolution to ask for the highest one. In dim light many cameras also lower the frame rate to get a brighter image.
Is the image recorded or sent anywhere?
No. The image only appears on your screen. A photo is created only when you press take photo, and it is saved directly to your device.
