A binaural beat is heard when each ear gets a slightly different tone: 195 Hz in the left ear and 205 Hz in the right are perceived as a beat of 10 Hz. Headphones are required.

Why do I need headphones?
The beat is created inside the brain from two different tones, one in each ear. Through speakers both tones reach both ears and simply mix, which gives an ordinary acoustic beat instead.
Are binaural beats safe?
Keep the volume low and do not listen while driving or doing anything that needs your full attention. If you have epilepsy or another seizure disorder, talk to a doctor first.
