What it does

In Italy the net salary is what is left of the gross annual salary (RAL) after the employee's INPS contribution, 9.19%, the IRPEF income tax with its deductions for employees, and the regional and municipal surtaxes. Since 2025 the tax-wedge cut (cuneo fiscale) adds a tax-free sum for incomes up to €20,000 and an extra deduction up to €40,000, and in 2026 the second IRPEF rate fell from 35% to 33%. This calculator applies the 2026 rules and divides the net by 12, 13 or 14 payments.

How to use it

  1. Type the gross annual salary (RAL) and the number of payments in your contract.
  2. Choose your region and, if you know it, the surtax of your municipality.
  3. See the INPS, the IRPEF, the surtaxes and the net per payment and per year.

The arithmetic runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored, so you can use these with real numbers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RAL?
The retribuzione annua lorda: the gross yearly salary written in the contract, including the 13th and 14th payments, before INPS and taxes. The severance fund (TFR) the employer sets aside is not part of it and is not deducted from the net.

What changed in 2026?
The 2026 Budget Law cut the second IRPEF rate, for taxable income from €28,000 to €50,000, from 35% to 33%. The saving reaches €440 a year at €50,000 of taxable income.

How does the tax-wedge cut (cuneo fiscale) work?
Up to €20,000 of income the employer pays a tax-free sum of 7.1%, 5.3% or 4.8% of income, depending on the band. From €20,000 to €40,000 there is an extra deduction of €1,000, which falls to zero between €32,000 and €40,000.

Why are the surtaxes withheld the following year?
The regional and municipal surtaxes on a year's income are withheld from the salary of the next year, in instalments, together with an advance of 30% of the municipal surtax. The total is the same; this calculator shows them in the year they belong to.
