Chinese Number Converter

Convert numbers to Chinese numerals: financial uppercase for cheques and invoices (大写金额), everyday characters, digit by digit, and back to digits.

Examples:
Financial amount 大写金额
Uppercase numerals 大写数字
Everyday numerals 小写数字
Digit by digit 〇一二三

What it does

Chinese has two sets of characters for numbers. The everyday ones (一, 二, 三) are easy to alter with a stroke, so cheques, invoices, contracts and receipts use the financial or uppercase ones (壹, 贰, 叁), written with the units 元, 角 and 分. This converter writes the amount following the rules of the People's Bank of China, in simplified or traditional characters, and also reads Chinese numbers back into digits.

  3. Copy the form you need: the financial amount for cheques and invoices, or the everyday numerals.

Frequently asked questions

When is 整 written at the end?
When the amount has no 角 or 分 (no cents): ¥16.00 is 壹拾陆元整. With 分, 整 is not written; after 角 it is optional, and this tool leaves it out, as in the bank's own examples (壹仟肆佰零玖元伍角).

How are zeros written?
A run of zeros in the middle becomes a single 零: 6007.14 is 陆仟零柒元壹角肆分. Zeros at the end of a group of four digits are not written, and when 角 is zero but 分 is not, 零 goes after 元: 325.04 is 叁佰贰拾伍元零肆分.

Why 壹拾 and not just 拾?
In financial writing every digit must be written, so 16 is 壹拾陆, never 拾陆; otherwise someone could add a digit in front. In everyday writing 十六 is normal.

What is the difference between simplified and traditional?
Mainland China uses simplified characters (贰, 叁, 陆, 万, 亿) and Taiwan and Hong Kong traditional ones (貳, 參, 陸, 萬, 億). For 10¹² this tool writes 万亿 in simplified and 兆 in traditional, as each region does.

Can it convert Chinese numerals back to digits?
Yes. Paste any form, everyday, uppercase, simplified, traditional or with 元角分, including variants such as 两, 〇 and 块/毛, and the number appears in digits.
