Countdown to a Date

What it does

This countdown shows exactly how much time is left until a date, in days, hours, minutes and seconds, and keeps counting live. Pick a celebration such as Christmas, New Year, Easter, Chinese New Year, Ramadan or Eid, or create your own countdown for a birthday, trip, wedding or exam. Dates that change every year are calculated, not typed in by hand: Easter by the church rule, and the lunar holidays from reference calendars. You can share the countdown with a link or add the date to your calendar.

How to use it

1. Choose one of the upcoming dates, or type a name, a date and, if you like, a time for your own countdown.
2. Watch the time left update every second. The browser tab also shows it, so you can follow it while doing something else.
3. Copy the link to share the countdown, or add the date to your calendar.

Frequently asked questions

Does the countdown use my time zone?
Yes. Holidays and dates without a time count down to midnight where you are, so New Year arrives at your own midnight. For your own countdown with a time, you can choose the same moment for everyone: then people opening your link in other countries see the same instant converted to their time.

How are dates like Easter or Ramadan calculated?
Easter follows the rule used by the churches, the first Sunday after the spring full moon according to the church tables, and Carnival is 47 days before it. Chinese New Year, Ramadan, Eid, Nowruz and the Jewish holidays come from their own lunar or lunisolar calendars, checked against reference tables.

Why does the date of Ramadan or Eid differ in my country?
Many countries start each Islamic month only when the new moon is seen, which can happen a day later than the calculated calendar. The dates here follow the official Umm al-Qura calendar of Saudi Arabia.

Is my countdown saved?
The countdown lives in the page address: copy the link to keep it or to share it. Nothing is sent to or stored on a server.
