Venezuelan Bolívar
The Venezuelan bolívar is the official currency of Venezuela, named after the South American independence leader Simón Bolívar. The bolívar soberano (VES) was introduced in August 2018, replacing the bolívar fuerte at a rate of 1 soberano to 100,000 fuertes, amid one of the worst hyperinflationary episodes in modern history. A further redenomination in 2021 replaced the soberano at 1,000,000 to 1, retaining the VES code for the new digital bolívar.
