What it does
Deleting pages builds a new PDF from the pages you keep, copied as they are. Nothing is re-rendered, so text stays text and images keep their resolution, and the file gets smaller because the deleted pages are really gone rather than just hidden. What does not survive is anything tied to the document as a whole, such as bookmarks and form fields, because some of them would point at pages that no longer exist.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF from your device. It is read in the browser and goes no further.
- Write the pages to delete. Underneath, the page confirms which ones go and which stay.
- Delete and the new file downloads straight away. The original is not changed.
Frequently asked questions
Is the original file changed?
No. You get a new PDF, and the original stays exactly as it was. The browser has no way of writing over a file on your device, and that is a good thing here: if you deleted the wrong page, nothing is lost.
How is this different from splitting a PDF?
It is the same operation seen from the other side. Splitting asks which pages to keep; this asks which to throw away. When you want to drop two pages out of eighty, writing the two is much easier than writing the other seventy-eight.
Does deleting pages reduce quality?
No. The pages you keep are copied as they are, not re-rendered or re-compressed. The file gets smaller, though not always in proportion: fonts and images shared across the document stay as long as any remaining page uses them.
Can I delete pages from a password-protected PDF?
No. A protected file has to be unlocked before its pages can be copied, and doing that here would mean asking for the password, which a page that promises not to upload anything should not be asking for. This includes files that open without a password but restrict editing, as many bank statements do. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first.
Are my documents uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by your browser and the new one is built in the page itself. There is no upload and nothing is stored, and once the page has loaded it keeps working with the network switched off.
