Hertz

The hertz (Hz) is the SI unit of frequency, defined as one cycle per second. It is named after the German physicist Heinrich Hertz. Frequencies in everyday life range from a few hertz for sound waves to gigahertz for radio waves and processor clock speeds, and into terahertz for infrared light.

Cycle/Second

The cycle per second is a historical unit of frequency, now replaced by the hertz. One cycle per second equals one hertz exactly. The term was widely used before the hertz was adopted as the SI unit of frequency in 1960, and is still occasionally encountered in older literature.
