Lux

The lux (lx) is the SI unit of illuminance, measuring luminous flux per unit area. One lux equals one lumen per square metre. It is used to measure the intensity of light as perceived by the human eye falling on a surface. Typical office lighting is around 300–500 lux, while direct sunlight exceeds 100,000 lux.

Phot

The phot (ph) is the CGS unit of illuminance. One phot equals 10,000 lux (one lumen per square centimetre). It was widely used before the adoption of the SI system and is still encountered in older scientific literature and some specialised applications.
