Terawatt
The <b>terawatt</b> (<b>TW</b>) is a unit of power equal to one trillion watts (1012 W). It is used to express global-scale power consumption and generation figures; total human civilization energy consumption is approximately 18–20 TW. The terawatt is also used in describing the peak power of pulsed laser systems, which can achieve petawatt or terawatt outputs in ultrashort bursts.
Watt
The <b>watt </b> (symbol: <b>W </b>) is a unit of power. In the International System of Units (SI) it is defined as a derived unit of 1 joule per second, and is used to quantify the rate of energy transfer. In SI base units, the watt is described as kg⋅m 2 ⋅s −3 , which can be demonstrated to be coherent by dimensional analysis. The watt is named after James Watt, an 18th-century Scottish inventor.
