The <b>pascal</b> (<b>Pa</b>) is the SI derived unit of pressure, defined as one <b>newton per square metre</b> (N/m²). It was adopted by the General Conference on Weights and Measures in 1971 and named after the French mathematician and physicist Blaise Pascal. Standard atmospheric pressure is approximately 101,325 <b>Pa</b>, and it is widely used in science, engineering, and meteorology.

The <b>technical atmosphere</b> (<b>at</b>) is a non-SI unit of pressure defined as the pressure exerted by one <b>kilogram-force</b> on a surface of one square centimeter, equal to exactly 98,066.5 <b>pascals</b>. It differs from the <b>standard atmosphere</b> (<b>atm</b>), which is slightly larger at 101,325 <b>Pa</b>. The <b>technical atmosphere</b> was widely used in older European and Soviet engineering practice before SI units became standard.
