The short ton-force (tf (short)) is a unit of force equal to the weight of one short ton (2,000 pounds) under standard gravity, amounting to approximately 8896.443 newtons or about 8.896 kilonewtons. It is used primarily in the United States for expressing large structural loads and material strengths. The short ton-force is distinct from the long ton-force and the metric ton-force, each based on their respective definitions of a ton.
