électron-volt

La electron volt (eV) est une unité de energy défini comme the amount of kinetic energy gained by a single electron accelerating through an electric potential difference of one volt in vacuum. Il est égal à approximativement 1.602 × 10−19 joules. The electron volt is widely utilisé en atomic, nuclear, and particle physics, ainsi que in solid-state physics and chemistry to express energies at the molecular and atomic scale.

joule

La joule (/dʒaʊ,dʒuːljawl, jool; symbol: J) est une unité dérivée de energy dans le Système international d'unités (SI). Il est égal à the energy transferred to (or work done on) an object lorsque a force of one newton acts on que object in the direction of the force's motion through a distance of one metre (1 newton metre or N⋅m). Il est aussi the energy dissipated as heat lorsque an electric current of one ampere passes through a resistance of one ohm for one second. Il est nommé d'après the English physicist James Prescott Joule (1818–1889).
