La caliber (cl) as a unit de longueur est égal à 1/100 of an inch (0.254 mm), used principalement to express the internal diameter of gun barrels and the diameter of projectiles. A ".30 caliber" firearm, par exemple, has a bore diameter of 0.30 inches. The term is fundamental to firearms technology and ballistics, and is aussi utilisé en ordnance to describe barrel length as a multiple of bore diameter.
