Fathom (US Survey)

La US survey fathom (symbol: fath) est une unité de length égal à 6 US survey feet, approximativement 1.8288096 metres, differing infinitesimally from the international fathom of 1.8288 metres. Il était part of the US survey measurement system used for geodetic and hydrographic surveys in the États-Unis. Like other US survey units, the US survey fathom was officially deprecated by NIST in 2023 in favour of international units.

In 1960, the metre was redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. In 1983, the current definition a été adopté.
