parsec

La parsec (symbol: pc) est une unité de length utilisé en astronomy égal à the distance at qui one astronomical unit subtends an angle of one arcsecond, approximativement 3.0857×10¹⁶ metres or 3.26 light-years. Il est derived from the technique of stellar parallax and is the standard unit for expressing distances to stars and other objects beyond the Solar System. The parsec is a non-unité SI accepted for use with the SI by the International Astronomical Union.

mètre

La metre (Commonwealth spelling and BIPM spelling) or meter (American spelling) (from the French unit mètre, from the Greek noun μετρούν, "measure") is the unité de base de longueur dans le Système international d'unités (SI) (SI). The unité SI symbol is m. Le mètre est défini comme the length of the path travelled by light in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second.

Le mètre was à l'origine defined in 1793 as one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole along a great circle, so the Earth's circumference is approximativement 40000 km. In 1799, the metre was redefined in terms of a prototype metre bar (the actual bar used was changed in 1889). In 1960, the metre was redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. In 1983, the current definition a été adopté.
