Add Header and Footer to PDF

Add a header and footer to every page of a PDF: text, page numbers like Page 3 of 10, the date or the file name, left, centre or right. Free, in your browser.

The file is read by your browser and is not sent anywhere. No upload, no storage.

What it does

A header and footer repeat the same information at the top and bottom of every page: a title, a confidentiality note, the date or numbers such as Page 3 of 10. This tool writes them into the PDF in your browser, in the right place even on pages that are rotated, and keeps everything else as it was.

How to use it

  1. Choose the PDF.
  2. Type the texts for the six positions you want, with {n}, {total}, {date} or {file}, and choose the size and the pages.
  3. Click Add header and footer and download the new PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add Page 1 of 10 to a PDF?
In the footer on the right, type Page {n} of {total}. On page 3 of a 10-page file it reads Page 3 of 10.

Can I leave the cover page without a header?
Yes: tick Skip the first page, or type the pages in the box. The numbers still count the cover, so the second page shows 2.

Does it work with text in any language?
Yes. Latin text is written as real text; other alphabets, such as Arabic, Chinese or Hindi, are drawn by your browser and added as a sharp image so they always display correctly.
