Femtonewton

The femtonewton (fN) is a unit of force equal to 10−15 newtons. Forces at this scale arise in the context of single-molecule biophysics, quantum mechanics experiments, and the interaction forces between individual atoms or small molecules. Cutting-edge force-sensing instruments, such as ultrasensitive cantilever systems, are capable of detecting forces in the femtonewton range. It follows the standard SI prefix "femto-" for 10−15

Newton

The newton (symbol: N) is the SI unit of force, named after Sir Isaac Newton. One newton is the force needed to accelerate a mass of one kilogram at one metre per second squared (1 N = 1 kg·m/s²). Roughly the weight of a small (100 g) apple under standard gravity, it is the base unit used throughout physics and engineering to express force, weight and thrust.
