Kilonewton

The kilonewton (kN) is a multiple of the SI unit of force, the newton, equal to 1,000 newtons. One kN is approximately equivalent to 224.809 pounds-force or the weight of approximately 102 kilograms under standard gravity. It is widely used in structural engineering, aerospace, and mechanical engineering to express forces at scales too large for the newton to conveniently represent. Bridge load capacities and rocket thrust values are commonly given in kilonewtons.

Newton

The newton (symbol: N) is the SI unit of force, named after Sir Isaac Newton. One newton is the force needed to accelerate a mass of one kilogram at one metre per second squared (1 N = 1 kg·m/s²). Roughly the weight of a small (100 g) apple under standard gravity, it is the base unit used throughout physics and engineering to express force, weight and thrust.
