Newton

The newton (symbol: N) is the SI unit of force, named after Sir Isaac Newton. One newton is the force needed to accelerate a mass of one kilogram at one metre per second squared (1 N = 1 kg·m/s²). Roughly the weight of a small (100 g) apple under standard gravity, it is the base unit used throughout physics and engineering to express force, weight and thrust. 


Dekanewton

The dekanewton (daN) is a unit of force equal to 10 newtons, formed by applying the SI deka- prefix to the newton. It is used in some European engineering standards, particularly in the textile industry for expressing thread and material tension. One dekanewton equals 10 newtons.
