Newton

The newton (symbol: N) is the SI unit of force, named after Sir Isaac Newton. One newton is the force needed to accelerate a mass of one kilogram at one metre per second squared (1 N = 1 kg·m/s²). Roughly the weight of a small (100 g) apple under standard gravity, it is the base unit used throughout physics and engineering to express force, weight and thrust.

Dyne

The dyne (dyn) is the unit of force in the centimetre–gram–second (CGS) system of units. It is defined as the force required to accelerate a mass of one gram at a rate of one centimetre per second squared, giving it a value of exactly 10−5 newtons. The dyne was widely used in classical physics, particularly in electromagnetism and fluid dynamics literature before the SI system was standardised. It remains in use in some specialised scientific fields, including surface science, where surface tension is expressed in dynes per centimetre
