Newton

The newton (symbol: N) is the SI unit of force, named after Sir Isaac Newton. One newton is the force needed to accelerate a mass of one kilogram at one metre per second squared (1 N = 1 kg·m/s²). Roughly the weight of a small (100 g) apple under standard gravity, it is the base unit used throughout physics and engineering to express force, weight and thrust. 


Gram-force

The gram-force (gf) is a unit of force equal to the gravitational weight of one gram under standard acceleration, amounting to approximately 9.80665 × 10−3 newtons or one thousandth of a kilogram-force. It is used in precision measurement, laboratory balances, and small-scale mechanical applications where forces are in the millinewton range. The gram-force is a gravitational unit outside the SI system, derived from the CGS tradition of using mass under gravity to define force. It is sometimes encountered in watchmaking, jewellery, and micro-mechanical engineering.
