MP3 to WAV Converter
Free MP3 to WAV converter: get 16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float WAV at the original sample rate or one you choose, several files at once, in your browser.
What it does
Converting MP3 to WAV does not bring back what the MP3 compression removed, but many audio editors, DJ software, sound boards and CD burners only accept WAV. The WAV file is about ten times larger: a minute of CD-quality stereo takes about 10 MB.
This converter changes the format of audio files, and extracts the sound from videos, without uploading anything: your browser decodes the file, and the new one is encoded on your device. MP3 and M4A (AAC) are compressed formats for listening; OGG with the Opus codec is the most efficient at low bitrates; WAV is uncompressed, for editing; FLAC is compressed without losing anything, about half the size of WAV.
How to use it
- Choose or drag one or more audio or video files.
- Pick the output format and, if you want, the quality, the sample rate or mono.
- Press Convert. One file downloads straight away; with several, each one gets a download link.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
MP3 if you just want it to play everywhere. M4A (AAC) for iPhone and Apple apps. OGG (Opus) for the smallest files with good quality, especially speech. WAV for audio editors and DJ software. FLAC to keep the full quality in half the space of WAV.
Does converting improve the quality?
No. Converting an MP3 to WAV or FLAC keeps exactly the sound of the MP3, in a bigger file. Each conversion between compressed formats (MP3, AAC, Opus) loses a little more, so convert from the best original you have.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser tab, so it works with private recordings and there is no queue. Large files depend on your device's memory: up to an hour of audio is fine on a computer.
What sample rate should I use?
Keep the original unless a program asks for something else: 44,100 Hz is the CD standard and 48,000 Hz the video standard. Lower rates such as 16,000 Hz are enough for speech and make smaller files. Opus always works at 48,000 Hz.
Are tags such as title, artist and cover kept?
No, only the sound is converted. Add the tags again in your music player or tag editor if you need them.
