Percentage to CGPA Calculator

Free percentage to CGPA calculator: turn your marks percentage into a 10-point CGPA with the CBSE, AICTE, VTU or ×10 formula used by Indian universities.

CGPA (out of 10)

All formulas

β€”CBSE: CGPA × 9.5
β€”AICTE: (CGPA βˆ’ 0.5) × 10
β€”VTU: (CGPA βˆ’ 0.75) × 10
β€”CGPA × 10 (Anna University and others)

To go from a percentage back to CGPA, the calculator reverses the same formula: with CBSE’s ×9.5, 76% is a CGPA of 8.0; with AICTE’s (CGPA − 0.5) × 10, 76% is 8.1. Use the formula your university or board prints on the mark sheet.

What it does

Indian schools and universities grade on a 10-point CGPA, but jobs, scholarships and foreign universities often ask for a percentage. There is no single conversion: CBSE multiplies by 9.5, AICTE (for engineering and technical courses) subtracts 0.5 and multiplies by 10, VTU subtracts 0.75, and many universities simply multiply by 10. The calculator shows the result with each formula side by side.

How to use it

  1. Enter your CGPA on the 10-point scale.
  2. Choose the formula of your board or university, or enter its multiplier.
  3. Read the percentage and compare it with the other formulas.

The arithmetic runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere and nothing is stored, so you can use these with real numbers.

Frequently asked questions

Why does CBSE multiply by 9.5?
CBSE worked out 9.5 as the average ratio between the marks and the grade points of its students over several years. It applies to the CBSE grading system; for college degrees, use your university’s own rule.

Which formula do engineering colleges use?
AICTE recommends (CGPA − 0.5) × 10 for technical programmes, and many affiliated colleges follow it, but some universities such as VTU publish their own. The official mark sheet or the university website is the final word.
