Thai Buddhist Era Converter (B.E. to A.D.)
Convert Thai Buddhist Era years (B.E., พ.ศ.) to A.D. and back: B.E. = A.D. + 543. Includes the old 1 April new year rule and an age and zodiac chart.
What it does
Thailand counts years in the Buddhist Era (พุทธศักราช, พ.ศ.), which starts 543 years before the Christian era. ID cards, contracts and receipts are dated in B.E., and only the year changes: months and days are the Gregorian ones.
How to use it
- Pick a Gregorian date to see it in the era; the result updates as you type.
- Use the year converter in either direction: type the era year or the Gregorian year.
- Use the year chart to look up birth years, ages and zodiac signs.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert B.E. to A.D.?
Subtract 543: B.E. 2569 is A.D. 2026. To go the other way, add 543. Thai official documents, ID cards and receipts use the Buddhist Era.
Why do some old Thai dates differ by one year?
From 1913 to 1940 the Thai year began on 1 April. In 1941 the new year moved to 1 January, so for January to March of those years the B.E. of the time is A.D. + 542; the converter shows both.
