  1. Type a frequency or pick a preset, and choose the waveform.
  2. Set the volume low and press play; choose left or right to test each speaker.
  3. For a sweep, set the end frequency and the duration; download any tone as WAV.

Frequently asked questions

What frequencies can people hear?
Roughly 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz in young people. The upper limit falls with age, so many adults hear little above 15,000 Hz. Small speakers and phones may not reproduce the lowest or highest tones at all.

What is the difference between the waveforms?
A sine wave is a pure tone with a single frequency. Square, sawtooth and triangle waves add harmonics, multiples of the frequency, which make them sound brighter or buzzier at the same pitch.

Is this a hearing test?
No. It can show roughly how high you can hear with your own equipment, but only an audiologist with calibrated equipment can test your hearing. If you notice a loss, see a professional.
