Span (Cloth)
A cloth span is a traditional लंबाई की मात्रक के बराबर 9 inches (लगभग 0.2286 metres), representing half an English ell and originally based on the span of the human hand from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the little finger when fully extended. It was widely used in the textile trade for measuring cloth and fabric. Like many body-based units, the span varied across cultures, but the English cloth span of 9 inches became a recognised standard in British commerce.
