The are (a) adalah satuan dari area in the sistem metrik, sama dengan 100 meter persegis or seperseratus of a hectare. It was introduced by the French Republican government in 1793 as part of the original sistem metrik. Although largely superseded by the hectare for practical use, the are is still encountered in some European countries for land measurement. The hectare, sama dengan 100 ares, remains the standard metric unit for agricultural land area.
