The Congolese Franc (sign: FC; code: CDF) is the official currency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the largest country in sub-Saharan Africa, issued by the Banque Centrale du Congo. The current franc was reintroduced in 1998, replacing the new zaire at a rate of 100,000 new zaires per franc, following a period of severe hyperinflation. Despite the country's vast natural resource wealth, the Congolese franc has experienced persistent inflationary pressures.
